houp

The creation of houp was inspired by my love of rocking. I loved rocking ever since I was a little girl – the freedom of movement, the change in perspective when looking down at the world. Later it got me thinking why should only children be the ones with rocking and swinging privileges – why are there so many benches in parks, and only chairs in garden cafes but no rocking chairs, and I dreamt of one day designing my own. When I was supposed to come up with my bachelor dissertation topic in design school, my choice was clear. Exterior rocking chair, ideal for both, a private housing terrace as well as public spaces. And so Houp was created. I knew exactly what I wanted from the chair. Clean and functional design. Simple, sturdy and low maintenance construction that would be both shapely and elegant and it would be derived from the foundations of swinging – a circumference and an arch. One of its main characteristics is a pocket under the seat, where you can put your personal belongings or work equipment. Playfulness trough colours. Capable of perfectly balanced positions. The seventh international designers’ festival Prague Design Week took place in Republic Square 7 in centre of Prague. Seven-day event featured the creation of 77 designers, jewellers, fashion designers, creative people, studios, schools and firms.
